OUR EXPERTISE IN AQUATHERAPY (OR HYDROTHERAPY)

Aquatherapy is physiotherapy in the pool. These are exercises adapted to your condition and during which you enjoy all the benefits of water to help you in your specific goals.

1. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF AQUATHERAPY ?

Pool exercises have several benefits. First of all, mechanical stresses (impacts) are reduced since water supports your body during movements. In addition, immersion in water reduces inflammation, and warm water promotes better mobility and relaxation of muscle spasms. It is therefore an interesting rehabilitation addition for several conditions since it will allow you to reach a higher level of physical activity and mobility.

2. WHO IS AQUATHÉRAPIE FOR ?

Aquatherapy is indicated for most conditions where the level of physical activity you wish to achieve isn’t possible outside the water. That is to say, following an injury, during a lack of mobility, or with conditions such as osteoarthritis, back pain, capsulitis, etc. Call us to find out if aquatherapy is right for you.

3. WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM AN AQUATHERAPY SESSION ?

First of all, a one-on-one in-clinic evaluation is required before the sessions to allow your physiotherapist to determine your condition and give you an appropriate level of exercise. Aquatherapy sessions last 50 minutes in groups and include cardio-respiratory exercises, mobility, muscle strengthening, as well as stretching as needed. The exercises are tailored to the individual, because the physiotherapist knows your condition and adapts individually in addition to giving personalized exercises. A receipt is issued in the session.

4. WHERE DO AQUATHERAPY SESSIONS TAKE PLACE ?

The sessions take place at the LeGardeur aquatic centre, where the water is heated to 90*. The depth of the pool is about 4 feet. The entrance to the water is via a staircase with a ramp. You must be able to climb an internal staircase of 5 steps (with ramp) to get to the pool.

5. WHAT EQUIPMENT IS REQUIRED FOR AQUATHERAPY SESSIONS ?

You’ll need to bring a comfortable swimsuit to move around, a towel and have your hair (if long) tied up (a swim cap isn’t mandatory)

6. PRESENTATION OF OUR PHYSIOTHERAPY EXPERT.
