WHAT IS THE ASSESSMENT OF ABILITY TO DRIVE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS REQUESTED BY THE SAAQ?

The occupational therapy assessment occurs in two stages.

First, the assessment of the prerequisites for autonomous and safe driving is carried out. Then a road test evaluates the ability of the person to drive a motor vehicle.

The first step involves assessing the skills required for driving a vehicle.

The purpose of the road test is to assess the client’s ability to drive a road vehicle safely.

Upon completing both evaluation steps, the occupational therapist will provide recommendations to both the client and the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ). The SAAQ will review the information and make a final decision regarding the issuance of a driver’s license.

ARE OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY TREATMENTS REIMBURSED BY INSURANCE COMPANIES ?

Occupational therapy treatments are covered by most private insurers. They are covered by the CNESST and SAAQ.
